Venue Review: Opening Day Party Bus, Bar West

This year for Opening Day at the Del Mar Races, two of my girlfriends and me, decided to partake in a party bus leaving from Bar West (in Pacific Beach) to Del Mar. Tickets were $35.00 per person, all you could drink. Sounds amazing right?? Well, it wasn’t. More like the biggest pain in the ass. Not only was Bar West (or whoever was running that sh*t show) extremely disorganized, it took forever to get on the bus and to the races, we each got one vodka drink and a can of Budweiser. The bus was so packed with people, provided radio music with horrible reception, and had no bathroom. Imagine drinking mimosas since 9:30 am, now it’s almost 1:00 pm, you are suck in traffic, and on a party bus packed with drunk PBers. Everyone had to pee. I was both fortunate and unfortunate to be sitting right up front by the bus driver. Fortunate, because I was one of the first that was able to bail out of that ridiculous, sorry excuse for a good time, and unlucky enough to see drunken men and women, with their huge Del Mar hats, piss in bottles. My experience overall of an Opening Day party bus from Bar West defiantly made a lasting impression and one experience I will never do again.

Let me point out that although my experience with Bar West was dissaticfactory, the Del Mar Horse Races on opening day was amazing! I met some great people and had a marvelous time with my friends. The atmosphere was enjoyable, lively, amusing and at times a little boisterous.

The San Diego LGBT Pride Rally and Festival is back for another round of half-naked gay men (and often times half-naked women) with glistening abs and tight butts storming the streets of Hillcrest!!
Lucky for me, I live in North Park and it’s right next to all the gay action. I WILL be there supporting California’s right to love and running around like a flamboyant, hippy fairy, socializing with anyone who is wiling to reciprocate. I also will be volunteering for the festival on Saturday, 17 July.
A little history: Pride originally started in 1969 in New York City, when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located in the Greenwich Village. As a result, people began Stonewall Riots and it is believed to be the starting of the modern gay rights movement.
Gay pride movements are held worldwide to this day, in countries such as Africa, Asia, Europe, Spain, North America and Australia, just to name a few.
Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, straight, unsure, or all of the above, come out and show your support. Not only is this supporting the gay community, you are supporting your right to be an individual and live your life free of oppression.
